Traditional Asian desserts such as Kuih Kaswi is another traditional Malay pudding dessert.
Kuih Kaswi is steamed before coating with fresh grated coconut flakes and is best served when cooled.
It is another simple and easy dessert recipes, which should be tried by you. You will be delighted with its unique tastes and fragrant.
KUIH KASWI RECIPE
Ingredients
4 cups water
3/4 cup fine granulated sugar
1/2 cup palm sugar - chopped into small cube
2 pandanus leaves - knotted
1 cup plain flour
2tbs tapioca starch
1 tsp Hoen Kwee flour
1 tbs alkaline water
1/4 tsp salt
Fresh grated coconut + pinch of salt - coating
Method
1. Mix well plain flour, hoen kwee flour and tapioca starch. Leave aside.
2. Bring water to a boil. Add granulated sugar, palm sugar & salt. Do not forget to put the pandanus leaves. Lower heat and boil until both sugars have completely dissolved. Allow to cool.
3. Now pour the sugar water onto flour mixture, stirring constantly. Blend well.
4. Add in alkaline water.
5. Sieve this mixture to remove any impurities from the palm sugar.
6. Pour pudding mixture into any pan or individual cup mould and steam for 20 to 30 minutes over high heat or until pudding has set.
7. Mix together grated coconut with a pinch of salt and leave aside for coating later.
8. Allow pudding to cool for 10 minutes before cutting or being removed from its mould.
